Learn about the Bible

About sixty years ago I read a book.  I have entirely forgotten what the book was about, but I do remember that the flyleaf had something that made a lasting impression on me.  Let me share that with you.  It said:

In the far north there is a rock which is one thousand miles long, one thousand miles wide and one thousand miles high.  Every three hundred years a little bird sharpens it’s beak on that rock.  When that rock has thus been worn away one day of eternity will have passed

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  God not only created the earth for us to live in.  At the same time God made the heavens.  All that was made was created to make the earth habitable.  Everything about the sun and moon is just right in size, color, distance, etc. for the earth’s inhabitants.  Science is finding out more about the need even for the stars in reference to our planet.

Even more important, God has given us a Book (the Bible) which tells us very carefully how we must live in this life but also how to prepare ourselves for the everlasting life to come.  The Bible is the only book  which proves itself to be true.  Of all the books in existence it is the only one that, with perfect accuracy, records history past and future.  There are hundreds of prophecies that have been fulfilled or are being fulfilled even today.  This Book tells me how to avoid hell and enter heaven.  I know that some will think it will be too difficult to live by.  Let me just give you one statement that Jesus made: “My yoke is easy and My burden is light”.
