To those peoples outside of Israel it must have seemed that there was some kind of magic in the land of Israel.  It was like an earthquake, it was quite unpredictable and nobody knew just when it would assert itself.  It was never a good idea to attack either the land or the people.   It all started in Egypt.  By the time of the third plague they should have realized that it would be better to let this group of slaves leave the country.

When the children of Israel entered Canaan the water opened up for them, the walls of Jericho fell down, the sun stood still for a day and other unusual happenings.  After they were in the land the magic continued.  Gideon, with three hundred men wiped out the entire Midianite army of over one hundred thousand. Samson alone killed a thousand Philistines in one battle.  When it looked like Israel was on the brink of defeat, the entire enemy army of one hundred eighty five thousand died in one night.

Even when the Israelites were out of the land it was not safe to try to harm them.  It’s interesting that Haman’s wife had an intuition of this.  In Esther 6: 13 she tells her husband: “If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shall surely fall before him.”

In 1947 the vote came up in the United Nations as to whether Israel could be accepted as a nation which it did in 1948.  Because Stalin wished to embarrass Great Britain, he had all of his satellites vote in favor; something he has regretted ever since.  Another very important thing happened in 1948.  When Israel became a nation the Arab League ordered all Arabs to leave Israel as they were going to come in and would kill anyone living in the newly formed State.  They were going to wipe them out and seemingly had the power to do so.  At exactly the same time the Arab nations had made life so intolerable that the Jews left, now that they had a place to go.

What do we see here?  Six hundred thousand Arabs left (who would be a serious problem later) and were replaced by an equal number of Jews, all thanks to the Arabs.  I suppose Satan is still kicking himself over that one.

Today again Israel is surrounded  by enemies who are determined to wipe her out.  In the north and the south there are rockets which can reach almost any part of the land.  Israel’s greatest enemy is Iran (or Persia), determined to destroy Israel (foretold in Ezekiel 38).  And last but not least is America turning against her.  Zechariah 12: 3 tells us that God will protect Israel “though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it”.

Israel has no chance of surviving except for one thing.  The magic never ends.
